William Ronald Haviland, 77, USMC, Vietnam, Los Angeles, 18 FEB 22 (Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills)

The family of William Ronald Haviland has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend his final military honors. We are honored to participate.

Our hero was born in Colorado and he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October of 1961 at the age of 17. He served as a chief cook, feeding 2000 Marines a day. William served in Paris Island, Okinawa and Camp Pendleton. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant (E-5). Following his 11 years in the Corps he continued in the food service industry. He was the food service director of Antelope Valley Hospital for thirty-one years.

In retirement he volunteered at Desert Haven Enterprises supporting developmentally challenged individuals and was active in the Marine Corps "Toys for Tots" program in the Antelope Valley. One year he caused 101 bicycles to be donated to that program and personally assembled all 101 bikes. He also provided many hours of his expertise at the Methodist Church Soup Kitchen feeding the homeless.

In his free time he remodeled his 1964 Chevy short-bed pickup and was awarded an honorable mention in a car show. William was also a student of the Japanese language.

William is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Asako, who he met while stationed at Camp Pendleton. He is also survived by his Daughters Evelyn Alexander and Vickie Gonzales, his brother, Robert Haviland, and sister, Virginia Haviland. He is predeceased by his sons, Ronnie and Shane. William and Asako were the proud grandparents of 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

NOTE: Please observe the latest “COVID-19” restrictions.
