The family of WWII and Korea Veteran Orville “Lee” Biggs Jr. has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor their hero for his service and sacrifice to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.

Lee served honorably from 1943 to 1953, in three branches of service. He first enlisted in the Navy at age 17, serving for the duration of WWII throughout the South Pacific – with an Aircraft Ordinance Repair Unit in the Admiralty Islands and with Combat Aircraft Service Units in Indonesia and the Philippines.

Following the war he became a Marine and spent 1946 assigned to the First Marine Division, deployed to China to assist in their post war recovery. Upon his pending discharge he was encouraged by some buddies to become a U. S. Air Force Reservist. After three more years his reserve unit was called back into active duty, so he deployed to Korea from 1950 to 1952 with the U.S. Air Force, and was finally honorably discharged in 1953.  During this extensive and varied service Lee earned many awards including the Purple Heart earned during a battle on Morotai Island in the Admiralties.  Other awards include American Area, Asiatic Pacific, Philippine Liberation, Good Conduct and Victory medals.

In his civilian life Lee worked for C.F. Braun in Alhambra and Chemet Engineering in Pasadena.  He was an avid pilot and aircraft owner. He loved to build and fly model aircraft, and loved to travel, especially road trips to see new places and new things.

Lee met and married his wife Agnes following his discharge in 1953 and they settled in West Covina.  He lost Agnes after 53 years of marriage, and was also preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters and one brother.

He is survived by his son Jay, a fellow Patriot Guard Rider from Minnesota, a granddaughter and a great granddaughter.
