The family of Deputy Daniel A. Cortes, and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Dept. have requested the presence of the Patriot Guard to Honor one of their own. It would be our privilege to Honor this American Hero both United States Marine and Law Enforcement Officer for the County of Los Angeles.

On May 16,2016, Daniel Cortes was diagnosed with Colon Cancer for the second time. Being prepared to fight as a typical Marine would, Daniel underwent Chemotherapy followed by a very aggressive surgery and then even more Chemo. Unfortunately Daniel lost his battle with this very aggressive cancer. End of watch came for Daniel on Feb 15, 2021

Daniel was also a dedicated Marine Veteran, from the day he signed that paper until his last day on earth. Daniel served 4 yrs with the United States Marines before going to work with the Los Angeles County Sheriffs for 15 more yrs serving his Community.

Daniel was a Los Angeles Sheriffs Deputy for the County of Los Angeles, and also a Safety Consultant with a PHD. Daniel also rolled out on Patrol and was an Academy Instructor.

Everyone that knew or met him said he was always firm but fair on anything he taught his students.

Daniel served his Family, his Country, and his Community without any reservation.

Daniel is survived by his wife Evelyn, and their three daughters. Please keep this family in your prayers as we have lost another Hero, but Heaven has gained another Guardian of the Gates.

We will stand tall, and we will Honor this Hero gone home to soon.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Law Enforcement Officer and Military Veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero and his family from the church to the cemetery, approx 14 miles, please see the time table below.
