Richard was born October 12, 1945, and passed away February 20, 2021 at Jacobs Medical Center in San Diego from a heart attack.

Richard joined the US Navy in 1966, and while advancing through the enlisted ranks, Rich became a Chief Warrant Officer then a Limited Duty Officer, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander after proudly serving over 27 years on active duty. He was awarded numerous military awards to include: Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with Gold Star; Meritorious Unit Commendation with Bronze Star; Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation; Navy Expeditionary Medal; Navy Good Conduct Medal (2nd award); Battle ‘E’ Award Ribbon (3rd Award); National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star; Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Bronze Star; and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.

After his retirement from the US Navy, Rich worked in Programs and Business Development at Lockheed Martin which he also retired from.

Richard is survived by his wife Joyce from over 50 years marriage, his children Rodger (wife Timberly), Angela Souther (husband Marco), Robert, and Teresa, his sister Judith McGrath (husband Scott), six beautiful grandchildren, and his mother-in-law Majory Barratt.
