The family of Robert Zamora Canez has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany their father to his final resting place. it will be our Honor to do so.
Robert was born and raised in Douglas, Arizona. Robert was a hard worker and loved all his family. Robert only completed 7 years of schooling before he decided it was time to work and help out the family.
On January 5, 1946, Robert joined the United States Army Air Force. He qualified Marksman with the M1 carbine, and a 30 cal. machine gun. Robert never got deployed overseas. He spent all of his time in Florida on Eglin Air Force Base with the 610th H AAF. He served 11 months with the Base Security Team as roving security, and watched over the installation for standing guard over aircraft that were being tested at the time.
Due to illness Robert never got to go full term in the Army Air Force as they were known at that time. Robert ended up on the 3 yr reserve unit until his enlistment was up.
Robert received his Honorable Discharge as a private, earning a WWII Victory Service Medal, which was awarded to him due to the year he had served. He also received his National Defense Service Medal.
After his time in the service Robert worked in the steel fabrication business for many years - - first as an employee and then as the owner of his own business. He was highly skilled in his trade and he loved to work. Robert lived in East Los Angeles for over 70 years.
Robert was the beloved head of this large family. He was happiest when the family gathered at his house for dinner and drinks. Even in later years, when he was not able to participate in the parties as much as he did when he was younger, Robert was delighted to have everyone together. To him family was everything.
Robert Canez of East Los Angeles passed away on July 26, 2026, after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Stella, and by his sons Manuel and Raymond.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Cecilia, his daughter Sandra, and son, Richard, both of East Los Angeles. He leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all loved him dearly.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran. For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, this will be a short accompaniment to the cemetery of approximately two miles. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum.
