The family of Monique Marie Morton, 48, have requested an accompaniment from Evans-Brown Mortuary to Riverside National Cemetery for her military honors.  It will be our honor to fulfill their request.

Monique was born 14 July 1978 and sadly passed 31 August 2025 in a tragic accident in which she saved the life of another horse rider while riding horses.  She will be remembered as a true hero.

Monique served in the United States Air Force as a Liquid Fuel Maintenance Specialist.  She was deployed to Bosnia and Kuwait and was known as a hard charger and problem solver, which she excelled at.  At one of her bases, she is credited with repairing the water system and restoring the water to the entire base.  She was awarded five Air Force achievement medals, eight command coins, and was named Airman of the Month several times.  She earned the rank of Master Sergeant.  Upon her military discharge, she worked as a military contractor since 2017 performing repairs and maintenance required for her military AFSC.

Monique had a love for horses, was an avid horsewoman, and was a beloved member of the equestrian community.

Monique is survived by her husband Charles Smith; her ex-husband, whom she remained close friends; and her three children, Jonny, Lacey, and Brittany.  She also leaves behind her mother, Krista Cox, uncle, Jim Sliffe, and cousin, Mike Lyons.  She will be deeply missed by the equestrian community and all who knew her.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran.  For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to the cemetery, approximately 14 miles.  Please see the timetable if you would like to participate.  For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  All PGR members are welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our heroes.  No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service.  Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum.  Observe the 15 MPH speed limit.  Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground.  Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
