The family of Russell David Sanderson, Sr., 79, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in their hero’s final journey.  We are honored to fulfill this request.

Our hero served in the United States Marine Corps from August 1963 through August 1971 at which time he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant (E-5).

While enlisted, Russel. served his country in Vietnam where he was awarded two Purple Hearts.  He also received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and National Defense Service Ribbon.

As a civilian, Russell moved back to San Francisco and began attending college.  He became the first minority person to be hired by the San Francisco Public Defenders office as a Chief Investigator.  Ten years later he moved to Los Angeles and became the Director of the Fred Jordan Mission. This is where he fulfilled his lifelong passion to preach, teach and lead many to Christ.  In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and practicing self-defense through martial arts.

Our hero is survived by his loving wife, Alice.  He also leaves behind 14 children, 52 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

“One straw at a time”

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  All PGR members are welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes.  No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service.  Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit.  Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground.  Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
