The family of Lawrence E. (Larry) Perdew has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders to honor this American Hero; it will be our honor to do so.

After 8 weeks of Pioneer training at Fort Leonard Wood, Larry served under the Eighth Army as a Military Policeman in the 260th MP Company at Seoksu-dong, South Korea. Larry’s health began a rapid decline in later years as the result of exposure to Agent Orange while guarding facilities responsible for the preparation and distribution of the toxic chemical in South Korea.

During our Hero’s Army service from 1970 through 1972, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Sharpshooter Qualification Badge (M-16). Larry was honorably discharged as an SP4 (E-4), and completed his Reserve obligation in July, 1976.

He became an expert in local water distribution systems while employed by the Cucamonga County Water District. Recent dedication of the Perdew Elementary School in Etiwanda (Rancho Cucamonga) illustrates the legacy of community service by Larry’s pioneer family, dating back in the Etiwanda area for over 150 years.

Larry Perdew is survived by his wife Cheryl, and sister Sandi.

Larry was also a very close friend of our Ride Captain, Jim "The Mayor" Frost.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from Etiwanda to his final resting place (approx 30 miles). Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
