The family of Staff Sergeant John Robert Whipple Sr., 85, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

SSgt John Whipple proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps, having served 20 years from 1951 through 1971.  He was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and served 2 tours in Vietnam.   He was recognized for his service by earning a Letter of Commendation, Presidential Unit Certification, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Combat Action Ribbons, RVN Cross of Gallantry, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat 5, and 7 Good Conduct Medals.  Staff Sergeant Whipple was very proud of his service to our country and loved the Marine Corps.

After retirement from the Marine Corps, John worked for the US Postal Service for 23 years when he then retired to his easy chair.  In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Elsiana who he met while on embassy duty in Indonesia.

John is survived by his wife Elsiana, son John R Whipple, Jr., daughter in law Rosa Whipple, daughter Leticia Baez, son in law Victor Baez, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

John’s family has requested flag line honors after services at Greenwood Memorial Park, an accompaniment of approximately 15 miles to Miramar National Cemetery, and flag line honors at Miramar.  It is our honor to do so.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero from the chapel service to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate.
