The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited to attend the military honors of John Alvin Ashe who passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024.  It will be our privilege to do so.

John, a dedicated patriot, served 27 years in the United States Air Force.  He wrote a book detailing his career journey, “509th Bomb Wing Veterans Association.”  He retired out as a Chief Master Sergeant.  He achieved numerous awards, promotions, and decorations to include the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 devices, Air Force Commendation Medal, and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with more than 7 devices, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 devices just to name a few.

John leaves behind wife, Maria Ashe; five children with mother of (preceded in death Jo Anne Ashe), John Jr., Sherrod, Wanda, Patricia, and Rhonda; 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  He also leaves behind siblings James, Michael, Stephen, and Robyn, and a host of loving family members and friends.

Those knew John, knew him to be a dedicated patriot who served in displaying unwavering courage and commitment. John was deeply respected by his fellow service members and will be remembered for his service in the United States Air Force.

A chapel service will be held at Wood Family Funeral Service in Tehachapi with burial following at Bakersfield National Cemetery.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero.  For those interested, and all PGR members are welcome, please see the time table if you would like to participate.

NOTE: Weather will continue to be hot.  Please remember to hydrate and eat.  This will help you tolerate the warm temperatures.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  All PGR members are welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes.  No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service.  Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum.  Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground.  Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
