Morton R. Schecter enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on October 22, 1942 at the age of 18.  He became a tail gunner onboard bombers and flew 38 missions over Europe, 35 of which he dropped bombs on Berlin and other locations.  He served with distinction, having been awarded the Legion of Honor, the Distinguished Flying Cross, 3 Bronze Stars and 5 Palm Leaf Clusters. He was honorably discharged on September 29, 1945 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Mr. Schecter went back to civilian life and worked as a salesman in the toy industry for 45 years.  He also loved baseball and played semi pro when he got out of the military, and he enjoyed horse racing as a spectator.
