The family of United States Marine Corp Veteran James Allen Weir, 81 years old, have requested the Patriot Guard Riders to attend his graveside service and burial at Desert View Memorial Park in Victorville, California. We are honored to do so. “Jim” served this nation in the U.S.M.C. from 1955-1963 where he served Active Duty from 1955-1959 and then in the U.S.M.C. Reserves from 1959-1963. Jim had reached the rank of E-4. Jim ended his Marine Corp duty as a Field Radio Operator with the 9th Marine Corp Reserve, 1st 155mm Gunnery Battery Unit at 29 Palm Marine Corp Base. He received his Honorable Discharge. His awards are; Good Conduct Medal, NCO Leadership School and Mountain Leadership Course.

After his service and into civilian life Jim became a commercial and residential floor layer of Resilient Floor and Decorative Coverings. He remained in this business until his retirement. His hobbies included his family, being very active with his volunteer activities Citizen’s On Patrol at the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station, square dancing (a bad hip required him to stop), reading books, watching old cowboy movies, being a history buff and being active in Union Local 1247.

I met Jim when I was assigned to the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station as a Patrol Sergeant. It took him a little while to warm up to me but we became friends. We would sit for periods of time and talk about all kinds of things from his childhood to his desire to continue serving the people of the community. Even after I retired we would talk on the phone. He had a heart of gold and I was glad to call him my friend. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Jim is survived by his sister Mary Ann, brother Donald, daughter Melissa and her husband Todd, son Matthew and his wife Deanna and two grandsons Ethan, Ian and his wife Casey and all of his friends at the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station. Jim was preceded in passing by his parents.
