The family of Rene A. Cuevas, age 71, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend his funeral service and honor him for his Military Service, we are privileged to do so.

Rene was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on June 8th, 1947 to Samuel and Teresa Cuevas. As a young child his family moved to Bedford- Stuyvesant, Brooklyn where he began to go by the name Reno. Sadly, he passed on September 14, 2018.

Rene Cuevas enlisted in the US Marine Corps  on May 15, 1968 and served in Vietnam until his honorable discharge at the rank of Lance Corporal on April 01, 1970.   He served with the 7th Engineering Battalion as a Combat Engineer.  As a combat engineer, Reno swept roads for mines and booby traps, provided engineering support and designed the first three legged watch tower, an accomplishment he was very proud of.  During his time in Vietnam he was repeatedly exposed to Agent Orange which led to his being 100% VA disabled and ultimately he succumbed to illness suffered as a result of this exposure.

After the military Reno returned to Brooklyn and decided that working with his hands was his calling. He became a General Contractor, renovating many homes. His passion was designing, building, remodeling and creating something spectacular. He and his beautiful wife Mary and their girls, came to live in Orange County in Southern California where he continued with his building and beautifying people's homes.

Little Reno was fearless, never would back down from a fight - the bigger, the better!  He’d tell you he was from the mean streets of Brooklyn - top of the food chain! His temper was his trademark but he was also the sweetest, kindest, most lovable man who wanted nothing more than to have a good laugh with you. He was a big kid, a goof ball and always the life of the party.  After coming back home to Brooklyn after Vietnam, he reconnected with a beautiful young girl named Mary whom he had met in PR when he was 16. They were married in 1973.

Reno is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Michelle & Vicki, and sister Doris.  Later in life, he became a fur-papa to his second set of girls, Zuki and Lolita, his constant lap companions.
