The family of Rolando Abao Calso has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their Hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Rolando was born in the small town of Sumabnit in Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines on March 22, 1945, and passed away on March 31, 2024, in San Diego at the age of 79 years old.
His life story paints a portrait of a man of dedication and diverse interests. He transcended his rural beginnings to forge a life of service and accomplishment. With his roots firmly planted in his homeland, he carried the values and education he received at Binalonan National High School and Central Luzon State University with him throughout his life.
His academic pursuit in agriculture at Central Luzon State University may have informed his appreciation for the natural world, a catalyst for his enjoyment of fishing—a hobby that provided him peaceful respite from the demands of his military career. His military service was not just a job but a calling, as evidenced by the numerous medals and commendations he received: 5 Army Commendation Medals, 3 Army Achievement Medals, 6 Army Good Conduct Medals, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, 4 Overseas Service Ribbons, the United Nations Medal, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. His expertise in marksmanship was acknowledged with the award of the Expert Marksmanship Badge, along with an Automatic Rifle Bar. These achievements demonstrate a profound commitment to excellence and a deep sense of duty. He served in the United States Army for approximately 20 years.
His pastimes, which included keeping up with Philippines news and watching combat sports like boxing and wrestling, suggest a man who enjoyed staying connected to his roots and indulged in the thrill of competition. These interests provided balance to his life, offering leisure and enjoyment outside his professional responsibilities and family commitments.
In his heart, his family was the greatest treasure, and his love for them knew no bonds, leaving an enduring legacy of worth and affection in each of their lives.
Rolando is survived by his wife, Gerce, and their daughter Jazzie Von Calso Ang. And his seven additional loving children Ervin, Alma, Robbielyn, Rosemarie, Melissa, Christopher. He was blessed with 14 grandkids, 2 great-grandkids, and many loving family members and friends. He is predeceased by both parents, 3 late siblings and a baby boy.

You do not have to be a Veteran or ride a motorcycle to attend this mission. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first Mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain, (R/C). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
Remember that our Mission is to stand tall and silent, with Honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking and please silence and don’t use your cell phones during the flag line and service. Please keep the radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15-mph speed limit. Remember Cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
