The family of Richard “Sunny” Farrand, 75, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Sunny served in the US Airforce from 04/30/1962 to 07/17/1964 during the Vietnam era. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Airman (E-2).

Sunny was the American Legion Service Officer at the VA Balboa and then La Jolla from June 2006 until he passed away 12/12/2019. He was in the VA with Cancer (getting treatments), having people come in from the hospital and outside the hospital to assist in filing claims.
 
He never stopped and always wanted to help even when he was sick. Sunny was on the board of USA Cares of California and served as the Outreach Director, He was a Lifetime Member of the AVVA 472 Chapter, Director of Operation Comfort Warrior from June 2006 until he passed 12/12/2019.

On June 8, 2019 Sunny was honored with a Plaque at the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial. In 2016, Sunny was awarded The Will Hayes Lifetime Achievement Award from The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park.

Sunny is survived by: His two children, Todd and Craig Farrand. Grandchildren Katie, Christina, Todd, Portia, Summer and Ashley. And his great-Grandchildren 10 currently and one on the way he knew about before he passed. His nieces and nephews, Kara, Heidi and Garth.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
