The family of Calvin Spencer has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders to pay Honors to this American Hero. It will be our Honor to do so...with dignity.

Calvin was born 10 SEP 87 in Lubbock, TX to William and Alma Spencer. Calvin’s family moved to Downey, CA when he was a young boy. Calvin knew from his freshman year at Warren High School he wanted to give back and serve his country. Two weeks after graduating from Warren High School, Calvin enlisted in the U S Marine Corps.

After boot camp, Calvin proudly served in the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, Echo Company, "Magnificent Bastards".  Calvin served a tour in Iraq.  Maj. Scott Huesing, former Commanding Officer of Echo Company 2nd Battalion 4th Marines stated, “As Calvin’s company commander, as we trained and fought in Ramadi, Iraq – which was some of the bloodiest fighting in the war – to say that I knew every Marine in my company at a level wouldn’t be true…Calvin was one of those Marines that really stood out. You’re always told you shouldn’t have favorites in your company as the leader, but like many, Calvin was one of my favorites because of that likability, and that positive energy that he had and his ability to connect with everyone around him."

Calvin attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged from the Marines.

After his service, Calvin graduated Cordon Blu Culinary School in Pasadena and landed a job at the Embassy Suites in his childhood home of Downey, CA.  In 2012 Calvin and his Marine veteran friend, Nick Velez, opened a restaurant in Downey, CA and named it “Bastards” in honor of the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines.  Bastard’s is a place where Veterans and non Veterans can meet and enjoy a strong fellowship.

Tragically, on 27 JAN 2018, Calvin succumbed to injuries he received in a motorcycle accident in Downey, CA.

Calvin was preceded in death by his father, William Spencer.  Calvin is survived by his loving mother, Alma Spencer; brother, William Allen Spencer and sister, Victoria Aniceto.
