The family of SSgt Robert H. Cox, USMC, have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his final Military Honors. It will be our honor and privilege to do so.

SSgt Cox enlisted in the United States Marine Corps 23JUL07. Robert attended combat training and communication electronics school, where he was promoted to PFC. He later worked as a radio operator during OIF. He served in four overseas deployments, two to Iraq and two to Afghanistan.  Robert received numerous decorations, among them the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star and Combat Action Ribbon. He was most recently assigned to the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion, Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, NC. He was a Critical Skills Operator.

SSgt Robert Cox was one of the Heroes that tragically perished in the crash of a KC-130 transport plane in rural Mississippi on July 10, 2017. The crash resulted in the deaths of all on board, 15 Marines and one Navy Corpsman. The flight had originated from MCAS Cherry Point, NC.

Robert was born in Santa Paula, CA. He attended schools in Fillmore, Ventura and Thousand Oaks, eventually graduating from Thousand Oaks High School in 2007.

SSgt Cox is remembered as “just the best person in the world. He was intelligent, and he loved his country and his family”. “He always had a book and was reading something. He was a really good guy. One of the best Marines I ever knew”.

SSgt Cox is survived by his father, mother, brother, sister and many other relatives.
