The family of Force Master Chief (FORCM) Othan Nathaniel Mondy, Sr., USN (Ret.), has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard at the final services and burial of this veteran of Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Desert Shield.  We are proud to be able to show our respects to this American Hero.

During his 32-year career, FORCM Mondy held one of 16 Force Master Chief positions in the US Navy, and was the first Black FORCM of the U.S Naval Pacific Fleet.  Additionally, he circumnavigated the globe three times and served as the Command Master Chief of CVA-63, the USS Kittyhawk.  He was also the first FORCM to visit the South Pole.

Not content in simply retiring, FORCM Mondy joined the Veterans Service Organization National Association for Black Veterans, Inc., founded the Inland Empire chapter #72 and continued to work to enhance the opportunities for all Veterans. By his dedication to Veteran’s issues, and his leadership, he was eventually selected to be the President of the Minority Veterans Coalition of California Southern Region.

He became a big part of Veteran participation in the community by his involvement in the Christmas gift giveaway to elementary school children, the Veteran’s homebuilding project and Veteran’s Day Parade in Temecula among other initiatives.

His family, the Country, and the Veteran community have lost a great man and an inspiration to all who knew him.

FORCM Mondy is survived by his devoted wife, Elaine Friloux-Mondy; four daughters, Wanda Marie Gaddy, Monica Ann Mondy, Karen Cecilia Waters-Wicks (Harry), and Arielle Alaina Mondy; One sister, Rose Arceneaux; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
