The family of Gunnery Sergeant August Garza Zimmerle invites the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his funeral and military honors, It is with honor we accept this invitation.

In 1931, August Garsa Zimmerle was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. August enlisted in the military in 1948 and proudly served in the Marine Corps, then the Air Force, and then the Marine Corps, serving in the Korean War and Vietnam. In 1979 August retired from the military at the rank of E7, Gunnery Sergeant.

During his military career, August was awarded numerous military medals and citations:

Navy Occupation Medal;

National Korean Service Ribbon;

Korean Service Medal with 4 bronze stars;

Presidential Unit Citation with 2 bronze stars;

Army Distinguished Unit;

Armed Forces Expeditionary Air Medal (Vietnam);

Vietnam Service Medal with 1 star;

United Nations Services Medal;

Korean Presidential Unit Citation;

Five Air Medals and Combat Air Crew emblem.

After his distinguished military career, August continued to serve by joining the Orange County Sheriff's Department for 12 years.

August was an avid reader, enjoying military and history books; going to the gun range, and tinkering with classic cars.

August was preceded in death by his son, Rene (KIA Vietnam); August is survived by his son, David; daughters, Caprice LePante and Jessica Zimmerele, and four grandchildren.

You do not have to be a veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. All PGR members are welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the Ride Captain (RC). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum.
