At the request of our PGR Member Rick “Moonman” Luna, the family of Robert Mitchell has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to attend the Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey. It will be our honor to do so.

Robert was born on 11 July 1945 in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Robert was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and served until 1967 during the Vietnam Era. He completed basic training in Fort Polk, Louisiana where he achieved the highest score on the Physical Combat Proficiency Test. After basic, he was trained as a Reproduction Equipment Repairman. Robert saw foreign service in Germany for over a year. His awards/citations included the National Defense Service Medal. At the time of his honorable discharge as a PFC (E-3), Robert was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Robert was Journeyman Glazier by trade and a member of Local Union 636 from 1970 to 2000 when he retired. He was a resident of Carson and commissioner of the Veterans’ Affairs Commission for the City of Carson. Robert was an active member of the American Legion Post 352 in Carson where he held multiple positions.

Some of his hobbies were hosting the fireworks for the City of Carson and volunteering to host the voting polls in Carson.

Robert is survived by his wife Margie, his brother Herman L. Coleman, his eldest son Robert Jr., a Marine Corps Veteran, two daughters, Shalanda and Britany, and stepdaughter Tamika. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Currently, three of the grandchildren are serving their country in the Marine Corps, LCpl. Ajian Mitchell and Private Aaron Mitchell and Cpl. Alexis Simmons, U.S. Army.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to his final resting place. Please see the timetable if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

If you cannot accompany this Hero please consider meeting us at the entrance of the Cemetery with a flag line as the hero arrives.

The weather is predicted to be hot so please stay hydrated and don't forget to eat; it can make a difference with your ability to withstand the heat.

NOTE: Please observe the latest “COVID-19” restrictions.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.

Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and respect for our Heroes. No talking, smoking, or cell phone use during the flag line or service. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Remember, cemeteries are hallowed ground. Show respect to all who are there, not just the ones we are honoring.
