The family of Eugene Garland Ryker has asked the Patriot Guard to stand Honors for their loved one. It will be our Honor to do so.

Eugene or Gene as he liked to be called by his friends was born in 1942. Gene was as sharp a kid growing up as anyone could want. By the age of 17 yrs old Gene had already earned his AA degree. Gene was always interested in Electrical Engineering.

Both of Gene’s parents were school teachers, so it was pretty easy to see where his education began.

After Gene obtained his degree in Electrical Engineering, Gene joined the Army. Upon joining, the Army sent Gene to North Dakota University to further his education after which time he was deployed to Germany.

He was in charge of his mortar unit as they gained control of many towns in Germany with the 42nd Rainbow Division, Battery B, 323rd Company.

Gene attained the rank of Sergeant. Gene also kept a journal for the entire company during the war.

He is part of the "Greatest Generation." He served from April 1, 1944, and was discharged April 1, 1946.

Upon his Honorable discharge Gene went to work for the Department of Water and Power. Gene worked as a field technician and retired as an electrical engineer.

Gene loved everyone and never met a stranger he didn't know.

Gene leaves behind his wife, Fern, 2 sons Paul, and James. His daughter Elizabeth proceeded him in death

Gene also leaves his Stepchildren:  Diana, Darlene, Jennifer, Frank, and James, ; 9 Grandchildren, 6 Great Great Grandchildren.
