The family of Melvin Charles Marshall has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Mel Marshall, 98, served in the US Army Air Force during WWII.  He trained as a Weather Observer at Keesler Field, Mississippi.  From there he was deployed to various locations throughout the European theater while assigned to the 21st Weather Squadron.  During his deployment, he supported “Operation Gomorrah, Operation Overlord, Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge.

After Germany's surrender, Mel returned to Mitchel Field, New York, where he separated from the Air Corps on September 26, 1945.  Mel was decorated with the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

In his post war life, Mel attended Syracuse University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Engineering.  He would eventually move to San Diego where he was employed with Rohr Industries for 32 years. Besides his professional achievements, he loved freshwater fishing, playing bridge, and family camping.  As a pastime, he closely followed Syracuse’s football and his beloved San Diego Chargers.
