The family of Richard McCann have asked the Patriot Guard Riders to attend his services. We are honored to do so.

Richard (Dick) Irvin McCann, Jr., 86 passed away Wednesday, May 31st after a long struggle with cancer. Dick was born in 1930 in Los Angeles, CA and was a longtime resident of the Conejo Valley. With his wife Ann, they brought their family to Westlake Village in 1968 and was an active member of the community serving as a founding member and first President of the Westlake Athletic Association, member of the Ventura County Republican Central Committee and Thousand Oaks Planning Commissioner. Later Dick and Ann retired to Thousand Oaks.

Dick served in the US Navy during the Korean War as a Photographer and upon his return joined the Los Angeles Police Department where he served as a detective and legal adviser for Chief William H. Parker. He attended Loyola Marymount University School of Law earning a Juris Doctorate. After passing the bar exam Dick went on to become a successful criminal attorney and arbiter. Dick was a proud member of several fraternal service organizations including the 20/30 Club, the Kiwanis, The Footprinter’s and the Elks Lodge 2477 for more than 20 years. In addition, Dick offered pro bono legal advice for homeless people in Thousand Oaks for many years.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Ann and their children Richard (Cathy), Timothy (Kathy), Michael, Mary “Shannon” Galloway (Rick), Margaret Gonzales (Victor) and 13 grandchildren. Dick is also survived by his only brother Michael McCann of Sierra Madre, CA as well as many nephews and nieces.
