It is an honor the family of Officer Juan J. Diaz and the Los Angeles Police Department invites the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his funeral services.

In preschool young Juan Diaz was asked what he would like to be when he grew up and he responded, a police officer.

Officer Diaz grew up in a gang infested neighborhood, but never gave into that way of life. Instead, while attending Bravo Medical Magnet High School, he joined the Los Angeles Police Cadet Program and continued practicing honesty, integrity, sacrifice for others, volunteerism and community service.

His high school classmates knew him as hardworking, kind hearted and always doing the right thing. Officer Diaz loved his family, the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Dodgers and working on his truck.

In April 2017 he made his lifelong dream come true as he joined the Class of 4/17 of the Los Angeles Police Department.

On 27 JUL 19, at approximately 0100 hrs, Officer Diaz, off duty, was with his girlfriend and her two brothers at a well known taco stand in the Lincoln Heights district of Los Angeles. Officer Diaz observed a male doing graffiti on a wall and asked him to stop. A group of males displayed a handgun and threatened Officer Diaz. Trying to defuse the situation, Officer Diaz, his girlfriend and her brothers got into their car to leave. One of the males opened fire killing Officer Diaz and wounding one of his girlfriend's brothers.

Officer Diaz was assigned to the Department's Professional Standards Bureau at the time of the death.

Officer Diaz is survived by his loving father, mother, two sisters and many family and friends.
