The family of Salvatore Mangano invites the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his funeral and military honors.

Salvatore Mangano  resided in Larderia, Sicily from the age of 5 through the Invasion of Sicily in WWII.  On 13 MAR 45 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an Apprentice Seaman at U.S. Naval Base #157,  Palermo, Sicily. Throughout WWII he was an Italian Interpreter for the British.  Additionally, he was stationed at U.S. Naval Base Exeter, Devon, England and U.S. Naval Camp, Navy #815, Azores.

At the end of WWII he was transferred to the United States, serving at, Naval Receiving Station, Brooklyn New York; Naval Air Station, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and Naval Air Station, Los Alamitos, California.

On 2 AUG 65 Salvatore was honorably discharged at the rank of AK1 (E6) Aviation Store Keeper.

After his discharge, Salvatore worked for McDonald Douglas Aviation in Long Beach, CA where he reviewed and approved blue prints for the construction of new aircraft. He retired from McDonald Douglas after 20 years of service,

Salvatore was most passionate about his Italian culture and heritage.  He spoke fluent English and Italian. He maintained communication with family members and friends in Italy until the last hours of his life. He was passionate about Opera music, was a connoisseur of good wine and Italian food . He often loved to cook himself, especially traditional Sicilian dishes.  He was well versed on any and every topic as he was an avid reader.

Salvatore is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie Mangano;  twin daughters Roseann Mangano  and Nancy Guidone; 4 granddaughters and 2 great granddaughters.

Note:  This notice is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran.  For those interested all are welcome.  We will accompany the hero and his family from Saint Polycarp Catholic Church to his final resting place.  Please see time table if you would like to participate.  For those that would rather go directly the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  Everyone is welcome.  We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).
