The family of Desidorio Zamora, 70, of Barstow, CA, has requested the members of the Patriot Guard Riders in honoring and remembering the life of their beloved father and grandfather. It shall be our honor to do so.
A native of Adelino, New Mexico, Desi enlisted in the USMC upon completion in 1968 of high school in San Bernardino. He served with the H & S Co, 1st Bat, 3rd Mar and completed 2 tours in Vietnam with a rank of E-5 Sgt. Awards and Medals include the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2*, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Rifle Sharpshooter, and Pistol expert.
Following his military career he worked for the housing authority in San Bernardino before relocating to Barstow and raising a family. He may have suffered from PTSD from his tours in Vietnam. He rarely spoke about his time in Vietnam until July of this year.
He kept to himself largely and never saw a doctor until he had a diabetic coma incident. The diabetes eventually caused his death on September 13.
Our hero enjoyed spending time with family, an avid fisherman, camping, and the outdoor life.
He is survived by sons Desi and Joaquin and five grandchildren, other family members and friends.
We will accompany our Hero with family members from the parking lot of the Dana Park Community Center, NW corner of Barstow Rd (Hwy 247) and Virginia Way (1 block north of I-15) to Riverside National Cemetery, approximately 89 miles, please arrive fueled up and ready to ride. NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from Barstow to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
