The family of Ernest Schaeffer has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend and honor their Hero at his services.  We would be honored to do so.

Ernest Schaeffer enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 1943, during the bombing of Pearl Harbor his ship was in the Pacifc, and as the Japanese left Pearl Harbor heading back toward Japan they bombed his ship. Fortunately, it didn't sink, and made it to Pearl Harbor 2 days later.  Ernest was honorably discharged in April, 1946 at the rank of PO3.

After the war, Ernie, as he was known to family and friends, went back to school to complete his education and graduated with a degree in electronics engineering.  He eventually started his own business in Chatsworth, CA, Schaeffer Magnetics, Inc.  He continued to serve his country by becoming involved in many space related projects and invented the air conditioning system for the Apollo 11, the first spacecraft to land astronauts on the moon. Later he also invented several components of the Hubble Spacecraft, solving many problems of the original design.

After retiring, Ernie was not satisfied to no longer be involved in something patriotic and he joined the American Legion.  His daughter Karen is also a member, and she is also a member of the ALR.  Since just finding out that you can be a PGR member without being a veteran herself, she is going to join the PGR and help us honor the heroes in Northern California where she lives.

Ernie loved his family and friends, but the other thing he truly loved was his 'baby', a 43 foot Motor Yacht, the 'Our Space', many enjoyable days were spent on that yacht with his family and friends.

Mr. Schaeffer is survived by his loving wife, Lulu Schaeffer, and two daughters, Karen Schaeffer and Wendi Korkes.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran.

The weather is predicted to be hot please stay hydrated and don't forget to eat, it can make a difference with your ability to withstand the heat.
