The family of James Thompson has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to honor their hero for his service and sacrifice to his country. We are honored to do so.

James honorably served in the United States Army in the European Theatre during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He was with the Paratroopers Company of the 508th Infantry.  James was wounded in action in August, 1944 and again more severely wounded in February, 1945.  He was returned stateside in a body cast to recuperate from those wounds in a hospital in California.

James was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, European/African/Middle East Service Ribbon, HQ 5th Army Unit Citation and Good Conduct Medal. His rank at discharge was Private First Class.

Following his honorable military service James was employed by the US Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in1980.  He enjoyed bowling, singing, family reunions and was an ardent fan of the Lakers and Dodgers.

James was the last to survive in his family of nine children. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Lucille, three daughters and one son.  Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren (plus one on the way). A grandson and a great great granddaughter preceded him in death.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. Please see the time table if you would like to participate.

The weather is predicted to be hot so please stay hydrated and don't forget to eat; it can make a difference with your ability to withstand the heat.
