The family of SSG Roderick Summers, age 55, has requested the PGR attend services for their Hero, it will be our honor to do so.

SSG Roderick Summers enlisted in the U S Marine Corps in July 1979 and served 14 years and was honorably discharged in 1993.  In 1996 he reenlisted in the California Army National Guard (CANG) and was currently enlisted at the time of his passing, having served a total of 31 years in the military.  He was stationed at Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base and served on two deployments to Iraq.

Roderick was also a federal employee in his civilian life.  He loved to watch war movies and drink a good beer.  He also loved walking and riding his bicycle along the beach.  He had also begun reading all kinds of books about the military.  The military and his family were his life.

Roderick is survived by his wife Lisa, his son Roderick Jr , daughter-in-law Atsumi, daughter Chanelle, and one grandchild Amelia.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this American Hero. For those interested, and all are welcome please see the time table below if you wish to participate.

For those not wanting to go to Los Alamitos you can stage a flag line at the entrance of Forest Lawn just inside the gate as procession returns to the cemetery at 1100 after the 'ride around'.

Special cemetery instructions: Please be respectful of other services going on as we arrive. Keep roar to a minimum, also I have been informed there is No Smoking Policy in effect.

For on base riding:  Each motorcycle rider should have registration, proof of insurance. You should also wear hard sole shoes, long pants, full-fingered gloves, a long sleeve outer garment, eye protection, and a DOT helmet. A brightly colored reflective vest is no longer needed but recommended.  Have your I.D. ready when you arrive at the gate.  Cage drivers must also have I.D.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
