The family of Col. Robert H. Gallavan USAF (ret.) has requested the presence of the Patriot Guard Riders to honor this American Hero; it will be our honor to do so.

Robert H Gallavan was raised on a walnut farm and ranch and attended school until called to active duty with the US Army Air Corps as an aviation cadet in March 1943. He then spent over 30 years of his life as a US Air Force officer.

Col. Gallavan served our country from 1 Feb 1945 to 31 Aug 1975, covering three major wars. This hero dedicated most of his life serving the United States of America. He was a Command Pilot and his military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal.

Upon his retirement from the military, Bob moved to Chicago, Illinois and was employed by Baxter Travenol Labs Inc. for 18 years where he served as Vice President Quality and Regulatory Affairs.

After his retirement from Baxter, Bob spent his time golfing, travelling, writing and flying light airplanes.  He also served as the President of his local EAA chapter.

Robert is survived by eight siblings, six children, thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be meeting the hero and his family at the cemetery and accompanying them to the shelter for military honors. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

The weather is predicted to be hot so please stay hydrated and don't forget to eat; it can make a difference with your ability to withstand the heat.
