The family of Randy Dale Thrower, USN has requested the presence of the PGR as his ashes join the earth after a 56 year journey at Riverside National Cemetery, 10:45 AM, 22 May 2015. It will be our honor to do so.

The mother of our hero, Chaplain Joy Jeannette, has requested the PGR to join Randy on his last ride from Adelanto near the family home to RNC. Randy’s motorcycle will be mounted on a trailer along with his ashes, and taken to Staging area 4. PGR members are instructed to assemble in  the parking lot at the northwest corner of US Hwy 395 @ Chamberlain Way. The family home is a few blocks away but PGR policy forbids residential addresses to be published.

Randy Dale Thrower, (DOB 29 January 1959, Clark AFB Philippine Islands), died on 15 April 2015, in Adelanto, CA. The day of his death coincides with his uncles birthday. His uncle, Donald Walters,  was killed when the helicopter he was in landed on a land mine in Viet Nam  in 1967.

He loved the Boy Scouts. When his family moved to the high desert, his scout leader was a man named Buzz Aldrin, a fighter pilot who scouted the moon in 1969 with Neil Armstrong. He attended schools in Adelanto, Edwards AFB, and Long Beach.

Mr Thrower was a Seaman Recruit with the USN and was honorably discharged on 13 March 1978.

Randy comes from a family of serviceman including his late father Russell Sr., and brothers Russell (USN), Ronald (USA), and Capt. Thomas Thrower USMM/CG. He has a nephew Russell Jr, USMC, who was deployed 4 times to Iraq.

In civilian life, he was a mechanic (his mother stated he tore apart everything early in life, but never put them back together), a heavy equipment operator, and truck driver.

His passion was motorcycles. He is a founding member of Rolling Thunder in California along with his mother who was the founding president for RT in California. The Rolling Thunder Ride is scheduled for May 24 in Washington DC.

His bucket list included one more ride to Sturgis, SD. He visited one time before and wished to live there. The family will be honoring that request with a vial of ashes from the urn and scattering them at the site of the huge motorcycle rally at later date. One more vial of ashes will be taken to his brother Thomas Thrower in Daytona Beach, FL. His brother is a captain with the USMM and will be unable to attend Friday’s service. He will, however, scatter some of Randy’s ashes at sea.

Randy was described as a clown who loved mingling with people. He especially enjoyed dressing as Santa Claus at a vets home in Lancaster. He was always helping out at the local homeless shelter and fed the homeless wherever he found them.

Randy is survived by his mother Joy Jeanette, brothers Russell, Ronald, and Thomas along with other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Russell L. Thrower Sr.,  USAF.
