Charles Carson, 95, USN, WWII, Riverside - 11 MAY

The family of Charles William Carson (95) has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.

Charles was born January 18, 1922 in Arkansas. He was the youngest of 4 children and grew up on a farm. After losing his mother at age 6 he completed school thru grade 8 and then helped out running the farm. At age 18 he joined the Conservation Corps.

He then joined the Navy in 1942 and was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee before being stationed on the USS ATA 198.
While stationed on base in Memphis he was hit by a civilian vehicle while on a bicycle delivering info across base. He had a skull fracture and was hospitalized 2.5 months before being shipped out to the Pacific. The VA accredited him with 100% service related disability. On November 22, 1945, he completed his service with the Navy as Ship's Cook 1st class.

After leaving the Navy, Charles went to butcher school to become a meat cutter. He and his wife, Mary, moved to California in 1953 where he worked mostly for Market Basket. He retired from Market Basket in 1983 and would meet several mornings a week at McDonald's to shoot the breeze with his buddies. He passed away on April 30, 2017 from complications of Alzheimer’s.

He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Mary, his daughters Debbie and Patricia, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
