It is an honor the family of Luther Edward “Ted” Whomsley requests the Patriot Guard Riders participate in his military honors.

Ted, the 5th of 10 children, was born 9 NOV 23 in Frackville, PA.  After high school Ted joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked there until December 7, 1941.  In February 1943, Ted joined the Army and proudly served in the European Theater under George Patton in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division as a radioman.  Staff Sergeant Whomsley served in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe .  Staff Sergeant Whomsley was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in one of his many battles.

In 1952 Ted moved to California and married the love of his life, Ellen, where they lived until his passing.  Ted worked for McDonald Douglas Corp for many years.  Ted enjoyed drawing cartoons and painting.  He also wrote poetry and short stories, including a personal documentary “Old Man from the Repple Depple”, of his wartime experiences.

Ted is survived by his wife Ellen of 62 years, son Wayne Whomsley, daughter Roxane Whomsley-Wilson and her husband Lynden, brothers Donald and Paul, and two grandchildren.

NOTE:  This notice is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this military veteran.  For those interested, and all are welcome, please see the time table if you would like to participate.

RNC ONLY: Park your bikes on E. Normandy, east of the first circle on the south side of the street, adjacent to Sections 28 and 42.  Park with the front wheels pointed toward the circle.  When rolling out to go to the service, go back to the first circle and proceed in the direction needed to get to the shelter.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please ride/drive safely.
