The family Joe D. Smothermon, 92, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to attend their loved one's services at Riverside National Cemetery, it will be our honor to do so.

Joe Smothermon served in the US Army in Honolulu, Oahu, T.H. for over two years as a Staff Sergeant MP during WWII.  Joe was in charge of 11 car "jeep patrol", where he supervised a platoon of 32 men doing roving patrol work.   Under a duty officer, Joe had complete charge of radio patrolmen, plainclothes-men, beat men and traffic investigators, all organized along municipal police department lines.  Ruled on procedures in unusual cases.  Had charge of policing off-limit areas, investigating accidents, and all violations of martial law, with the 810th Military Police Company. He served from 7/3/43 to 2/23/46.

After his service Joe was superintendent of a roofing company for over 30 years.  Hobbies were RV traveling, camping with family and friends, golfing, and bowling.

He is survived by his wife Minnie Smothermon.  Had three children, Carol, Vickie and Darwine.  9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
