The Patriot Guard has been asked by the family of MAJ Robert Samuel Key to attend his funeral services and we will be proud to do so.
Robert recently passed away unexpectedly while hiking with the son, Patrick. He was a man of strength, with a great sense of humor, deep humility and unwavering loyalty. Robert lived his life loving his family and friends, and serving his country both through his military service in Vietnam and his continued work at the Veteran’s Affairs Administration.
Robert leave behind his wife of 31 years Diane Amrhein Key; and 3 children, Meghan, Patrick and Lauren. He was also a beloved grandfather and brother. Robert will be missed dearly by countless relatives, friends, clients and others who knew him.
Robert served in the US Army for 23 years and retired at the rank of Major. During this time he served as a Green Beret and in the 1st Infantry, 82nd Airborne Corps, and 5th Special Forces Group. He was highly decorated for his service in Vietnam: awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star with “V” and five Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Stars for Meritorious Service and Meritorious Achievement, the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, and Combat Infantryman Badge, as well as others.
After retiring, Robert joined the Dept. of Veterans Affairs where he provided Counseling services to Combat Veterans and their families for over 26 years.
