The family of
Lieutenant Commander David Leslie has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
David Alexander Leslie Jr., 96, was born August 6, 1921, in Williamstown, MO. He joined the US Navy in 1943 at the height of WWII. A Navy pilot, LCDR Leslie flew Consolidated Aircraft’s PBY Catalina, an amphibious aircraft also known as the flying boat. For his service, LCDR Leslie was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
LCDR Leslie retired from the Navy in 1964. He would then continue serving his country and his fellow veteran by working for the San Diego County Office of Veterans Affairs where he became the director.
LCDR Leslie passed on August 17, 2017, just days after his 96th birthday. He is survived by all four of his children, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
This hero’s family includes two PGR members, the LCDR’s son-in-law Herb “Flagman” Exarhos and Herb’s daughter Melissa. The family has requested a short accompaniment from the staging area to Miramar National Cemetery where the LCDR will receive his Final Honors.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and family from the staging area to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
