The family and the US Marine Corps have invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be there to accompany their Hero, Sgt Nicholas H. Newell, 24, as he returns home to his family in the State of New York.  We will be honored to do so.

Nicholas "Nick" Newell was born in Troy, NY on February 7, 1993.  He graduated from Tamarac Senior High School in Troy in 2011 and enlisted in the US Marine Corps in August that year.  He applied to and was accepted in Military Police School and became a K9 handler. He was awarded "Top Dog" upon graduation from training. He was soon deployed to Okinawa, Japan where he spent 3 years supporting operations in the Pacific.  He was then assigned to Joint Training Base at Lackland in 2014, where he became an instructor for Specialized Search Dog (SSD) School. He graduated over 20 dog teams in his time as an instructor, an exemplary record.  In 2016 he applied to Marine Special Operations Assessment and Selection and was accepted to train in Special Ops and graduated as a Marine Raider (Critical Skills Operator), assigned to 1st Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Special Operations Company Delta, Camp Pendleton. His unit Master Sergeant calls him one of his best guys, the standard every Marine hopes to achieve.

Nick loved the outdoors, the beach, hunting, fishing, boating, and off roading among them. Nick was the kind of guy everyone wanted to be around and call brother.  Always strong and positive, always someone you looked up to, and a mentor to many.  He was a great son, brother, husband, and was going to be a great father to his first child who is on the way.  Sadly he was lost in a motorcycle accident on base on 29 Oct 17.

Nick is survived by his wife, his mother and father. his brother, his step brother and step sister, his dog Olive and his MWD (Military War Dog) Mako.
