The family of PFC Ivan Robert Sykes has requested the Patriot Guard Riders to accompany their loved one from the family home
to Riverside National Cemetery, and be present for his service and Military Honors. We will be truly honored to do so.
PFC Ivan Robert Sykes proudly served his country from 05/25/42 - 04/18/1946, in the South Pacific and Australia. He was a T/4
Surgical Tech in field hospitals, treating and caring for battle casualties, First Aid, administering meds and blood plasma. Ivan assisted
Doctors in surgery as a scrub and circulating nurse.
Ivan was an admirer of Desmond Doss (the story Hacksaw Ridge). He attended Doss Training for Youth, an SDA church group like the Boy Scouts, before his enlistment. Ivan stood firm for the Sabbath, just like Doss, through his service and the rest of his life.
After his service with the Army, Ivan worked as a Physical and Massage Therapist. He lived a healthy lifestyle that kept him fit and strong all his life. Ivan enjoyed wilderness camping, traveling, gardening, watching religious TV stations, and loving his wife and children.
Ivan passed away in Oct. 2015. He donated his body to Bodies of Science at Loma Linda University. The University uses the donated bodies for research for two years, then returns the cremains to the family.
Ivan is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughters Paula Shane, Donna Shane, Judi Paliungas, Rebecca Noel, son Steve Morrison, sister
Judy Pritchard, 8 Grandchildren, and 5 Great Grandchildren.
