The Patriot Guard has been requested to pay Honors to an American Hero, as well as "be his family". It will be our distinct privilege to do this.
This request was started by a member of Purpose Church of Pomona that Daryl went to, and they asked us for our help to be his family.
His friend James decided a brother was not going to a paupers field and paid for everything to be done right. Our Hero, Daryl David January, loved to go to his church, and was always helping out any way he could.
The scripture that best fit Daryl was John 15:13: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
Daryl's church members have all said that scripture fit Daryl to a tee.
He was their handyman, gardener, what ever they needed him to be. This church was his home and the people there, were his family.
His fellow church members said Daryl was a very big soft spoken, caring, and loving man. You always knew when Daryl was coming when he and his motorcycle came into the parking lot, they heard him before they saw him.
Our Hero was in the United States Marines Corps, and served during the Vietnam War. Daryl completed his tour with the Marines and was given an Honorable Discharge at the Rank of PFC.
Daryl always made sure when there was a blood drive at the church that he was there to be able to give the gift of life to someone else. His sense of duty to give back to the community and his fellow man was enormous. If someone needed anything and Daryl had it, he made sure they got it. Daryl's friend James supplied a trailer for him to live in as well as gave him employment to be able to get by and do the things that God laid on his heart.
Daryl passed on Christmas day, at the VA hospital in Loma Linda, leaving no one behind, Daryl had no family.
Today this will be different. "We will be his family" from start to finish. There will be PGR Pall Bearers from beginning to end. This day we will make sure this Marine is not alone, and that everyone will see just how caring his family (PGR) is.
I can think of no other or better way to bring our Hero home.

For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and some of his church family from the mortuary to his final resting place.
