The family of
Electronics Mate Chief Petty Officer Richard M Honeycutt has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.
Chief Honeycutt proudly served his country for 20 years in the US Navy. He is one of the few remaining heroes of the “great generation” that served to protect our nation and its allies from Nazi, Imperialistic, and Communist aggression.
Chief Honeycutt served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. For his service, he was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Bronze Star, 2 National Defense Service Medals, and 5 Good Conduct Medals.
After Chief Honeycutt’s retirement from the United States Navy, he worked for the California Department of Transportation for 20 years, where he was involved in highway maintenance. Richard was a collector of “everything”. Likely as a result of living through the Great Depression, he believed in preserving all items that may someday have a useful purpose. He also loved tinkering with electronics and saved all electronic items that he could someday repair.
Richard is survived by his wife Betty of 70 years, his 6 children Richard Jr., Johnny, Peggy Tollesson, Judy Buganan, Tammy Clack, and Theresa Carel. Richard is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
The family has requested an accompaniment from Legacy Funeral Home, La Mesa to Miramar National Cemetery, a distance of approximately 17 miles. It will be our honor to do so.
Note: This notice is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.
