The family of Fire Control Technician Chief Petty Officer John Ellsworth Hasselbrink has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.   It will be our privilege to do so.

FTC John Hasselbrink, a California native, was a well-respected senior enlisted leader in the Pearl Harbor submariner community.   He joined the Navy in February 1996 and served his entire career in Pearl Harbor where he was most recently assigned duty aboard the Virginia-class nuclear powered attack submarine, USS Illinois (SSN-786).

John was a keen runner and shared numerous photos online of himself participating in marathons in Hawaii.   He is survived by his parents and his sister.

The family has invited the PGR to be present as this hero is brought home to California and that we accompany him to his hometown of Tehachapi.  The South Central PGR will be there at a later date to honor John when he is interred at Bakersfield National Cemetery, Arvin, CA.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the airport to the mortuary.  Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the mortuary, we will meet you there.

This mission involves an aircraft arrival. Arrival times can change at the last minute so please check this thread for any last minute changes before leaving
