The family of Gunnery Sergeant Mark Kingsley Compton has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

GySgt Compton, 57, proudly served his country from December 1980 through December 2002 in the United States Marine Corps, time that included service in the Persian Gulf and Somalia.  For his service, he was awarded the Expert Rifle Badge (14th award), Expert Pistol Badge (12th), National Defense Service Medal with Silver Star, Marine Corps Good Conduct with 1 silver and 1 bronze star, 2 Meritorious Unit Commendations, 2 Certificates of Commendation, Sea Service Deployment with 4 Stars, Navy Unit Commendation, 3 Letters of Appreciation, 2 Meritorious Mast, 2 Combat Action Ribbons, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 1 star, Kuwait Liberation Medal with 1 star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Medal with 1 star.  Mark had attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant upon his honorable discharge.

After his retirement from the Marine Corps, Mark worked for Jacobs Technologies.  He enjoyed riding his Harley, working on and driving old cars and trucks, and playing golf.

Mark is survived by his wife Jean Compton, mother Pattie Compton, and sisters Marie Hendrickson and Kathy Compton-Klinkhammer.

Memorial Services followed by Military Honors will be conducted at Grace Presbyterian Church, Vista.  The family had requested the Patriot Guard to be present to honor their hero, and it will be our privilege to do so.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission.  Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car.  If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
