The family of Command Master Chief Petty Officer Francis B. McComb Jr., USN (Ret) has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor him for his service to our country. It would be our honor to do so.

A native of Ronkonkoma, NY, CMDCM Francis (Buddy) McComb, Jr. joined the United States Navy in June 1969 and served until his retirement, October 31, 2003. During his over 32-year career, Master Chief McComb served on many ships to include the USS Callaghan DDG-994, the USS David R Ray DD-971 during Desert Shield and the USS Shiloh CG-67. A few of his shore stations included instructor duty at NTC San Diego, and Command Master Chief at both Airtevron 9, China Lake and San Diego Anti-Submarine Warfare Base. In 1989 he attended the 9-week Senior Enlisted Academy. He also served in the Gulf War.   The previous entries represent just a view of his many duty stations and accomplishments. Upon his retirement from the Navy, Buddy worked on Innova Systems.

Buddy’s awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), Meritorious Unit Commendation (2), Battle “E” Ribbon (3), Good Conduct Medal (eight), Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal (3), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (6), and Meritorious Service Medal (3).

The memory of Buddy will be cherished by his Wife, Karla McComb; Siblings: Eddie McComb, Ann Marie (McComb) Knight, Margie McComb Cassidy: His Children: Stacey Odell, Kyle McComb and Kerry Bennett and 9 grandchildren.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary in El Cajon to Ft Rosecrans National Cemetery. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

The family will be taking Buddy to the family home following Military Honors for eventual burial at sea. Any of the PGR members who would like to accompany them back to El Cajon are welcome.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
