The family of Donald Thorpe, US Army (Ret), has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor him for his service to our country. It would be our honor to do so.

Donald enlisted in the US Army on May 21, 1968 and served until he was medically retired April 18, 1978. His final release from service was in August, 1983.  SP5 Thorpe obtained many Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) during his over 9 years of active service. He initially was a 36C, Wire Systems Installer. After his first reenlistment he trained as a HERCULES Missile Crewman, 16B. Toward the end of his time in the Army he trained as a Petroleum Lab Specialist, receiving the 92C Specialty. Upon completion of his service, he was honorably discharged as a SP5. Following his military service, Donald worked as a Commercial Inspector for the California Highway Patrol, retiring in 2010.

His awards included the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (3), Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Marksman (Rifle).

Donald is survived by his wife Patricia and son Michael. He also leaves behind 2 grandchildren.

We will accompany this hero from the family’s location to Miramar National Cemetery, a distance of approximately 1 mile.
