Carter Wayne Yarborough, 48, USA, San Diego - 6 JULY 2018
« on: July 02, 2018, 03:42:20 AM »
The family of Carter Wayne Yarborough has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor this hero for his service to his country.  It will be our privilege to do so.

Carter Yarborough, 48, was born in Houston, TX, July 12, 1969.  The family moved to California in 1976 and Carter attended Monte Vista High School, graduating in 1987.  He ran Track and Cross Country for Monte Vista and earned an athletic scholarship to Cal State L.A. Carter had a highly successful college career, winning NCAA titles in the 10K and graduating with a degree in Sports Medicine.

Carter joined the US Army 1996 and served his country until 1999, as an M1 Armor Crewman, Skill Level 10. His skills included driving tanks, loading and firing the main gun, navigating, reading and interpreting maps, securing, preparing and stowing ammunition, assisting in target detection and identification, and performing operator maintenance on turret, weapons, controls and communications equipment.

For the past twenty years, Carter worked at Sycuan Casino, where he was loved by everyone he encountered.  He also coached Cross Country and Track at Valhalla High School for two decades, where he was lovingly known as “Coach Carter.” He was a unique coach; he ran alongside his athletes during every practice, motivated them in a calm way, and cared deeply about each and every one of them. Under his guidance, many of the athletes continued their athletic endeavors into and throughout their college careers. He will be remembered as a father figure to numerous runners.

Sadly, this hero succumbed to injuries he sustained when his motorcycle collided with a Sheriff's patrol car in Encinitas on June 24, 2018. He is survived by his mother, his stepfather, his sister, a nephew and a host of aunts, uncles, extended family and friends.

The family has requested an accompaniment from services at Church of Christ in San Diego to Greenwood Memorial Park and it will be our honor to do so.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the church service to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

Note: The weather is predicted to be hot so please stay hydrated and don't forget to eat; it can make a difference with your ability to withstand the heat.
