It is an honor the Ventura County Sheriffs Department and the family of Sergeant Ronald Lee Helus invites the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his funeral services.
Sgt Helus joined the Ventura County Sheriffs Deparment in 1989 and served the community for over 29 years.
On 8 NOV 18, Sgt Helus responded to a shots fired call at a bar in Thousand Oaks, CA. As he arrived on scene he heard gun shots within the bar containing over 200 college srudents. He and a California Highway Pattol officer immediately made entry and confronted the shooter. Sgt Helus was shot and severely injured. The Highway Patrol officer pulled him out of the building. Sadly. Sgt Helus succumbed to his injuries.
Ron Helus was a great guy in the department and in his personal life outside work. People who knew him can't stop talking about what a good man and great law officer he was. He attended college at the University of Oklahoma and was a Oklahoma Sooners fan for life. He also loved fishing and the outdoors and took many fishing trips with his son. He also loved music, particularly country and blues, he was a big fan of guitars and guitar players like Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
This is a great loss, to his family, to the Ventura Sheriffs Dept and to the world in general. Sgt Ron Helus will be missed and never forgotten.
Sgt Helus is survived by his wife, Karen and one son, Jordan.
