The family of Gordon R. Nelson has invited the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) to attend the Military Honors of their loved one as he makes his final journey. It will be our honor to do so.
Gordon was born on 30 August 1927 and entered into Eternal Rest on 19 March 2011. Gordon's wife Dolores passed shortly before him, and the family has decided to finally have them interred together.
Gordon joined the US Army and served from 24 January 1946 to 1 April 1947. After Basic Training, he was sent to Japan as a member of the occupation force. He spent 5 months in Japan. Gordon trained as a General Carpenter, and would assist Combat Engineers when needed. He was attached to the 90th Bomber Squadron 3rd Bomber Group of the Army Air Corp. His awards include the WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal/Japan, and the M1 Rifle Qualification. Gordon was honorably discharged at the rank of Private.
After his Military Service, Gordon worked at his brothers' machine shop for 5 years. He then started working for Douglas Aircraft until his retirement at the age of 55.
Among his many hobbies, Gordon loved to go dancing, play golf, ride his motorcycle, go target shooting with his brothers, and go fishing.
Gordon is survived by his son Gordon Jr., daughters Barbara, Joyce, Donna, Patricia, 10 grandchildren, and many more great-grandchildren.
