The family of Paul William Herring has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to participate in his final Military honors. It will be our honor and privilege to do so.

Paul was born on March 7, 1939 and passed away on January 3, 2020 due to complications of bladder cancer.

Paul enlisted in the United States Navy in July, 1957 and retired after 20 years of service in August, 1977, at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was an Aircraft Mechanic, specializing on jets. He was trained on F-4’s, F-14’s and F-18’s. He served 3 tours aboard the USS Forestall and one on the USS Enterprise. His deployments (or cruises) involved time along the coast of Vietnam. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Honor Medal.

Chief Herring was intimately involved is getting “Blue Water Sailors” recognition and benefits for the adverse effects of Agent Orange many suffered even though they weren’t considered “Boots on the Ground”.

After Paul retired from the Navy with 20 years of service, he went to work at the Pacific Missile Test Center at Point Mugu Naval Air Station, from which he also retired.

Paul was a family man who enjoyed watching the Los Angeles Angels and San Francisco 49er’s, Bar-B-Queing, Las Vegas and the Chumash Casino.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Carmela Herring, daughters Tina, Gina and Dina, 10 grandchildren and his sister.

NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the Hero and his family from the mortuary to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

1230 – Flag Line as Hero is moved from coach to final resting site

1245 – Attend final Military Honors

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain).  Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).  Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can.  Please ride/drive safely.
