The family of Harold F. Vickers, 71, has requested the PGR in the honoring of their beloved father, brother, grandfather and friend. It will be our honor to do so.
Harold F. “Vick” Vickers, of Barstow, died 23 March 2014. He was born in Huntington, West Virginia. He and his family lived in the Slash X Ranch area, a well known outpost for off road enthusiasts and travelers along Hwy 247.
Our hero retired as a CW2 after 21 years of service with the US Army. Following his military service he was employed as a long haul truck driver and was a civilian employee at Ft. Irwin. He was also a life time member of the VFW and American Legion.
His specialty in the service was as a Food Service Technician. Military medals include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal (Third Award), Army Commendation Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Mr. Vickers is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Verna, wife Leota Ann, sisters Francis Vickers Smith and Naoma Vickers Smith and one brother William J. Vickers.
He is survived by his daughter, Alicia Vickers, one sister, Clara Bell Vickers Sexton, one brother, James Vickers, granddaughter Melanie Pina, 2 great-grandchildren and his best friend and fellow trucker, Les Wilkerson.
Services are scheduled 1000, 11 April 2014 at Mead Mortuary, 36930 Irwin Rd, Barstow. Internment services are scheduled at 1400 hours the same day at RNC.
PGR will provide a flag line at Meads, accompany our hero to RNC, and at the commitment shelter.
NOTE: This mission posting is to facilitate your voluntary participation in honoring this Military Veteran. For those interested, and all are welcome, we will be accompanying the hero and his family from the mortuary to his final resting place. Please see the time table if you would like to participate. For those who would rather go directly to the cemetery, we will meet you there.

You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the initial staging area and you will be briefed there by the R/C (Ride Captain). Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car). Please feel free to attend any portion of this mission you can. Please ride/drive safely.
