The family of CDR Wallace Francis MacLeod Jr. USN RET, has invited the Patriot Guard Riders to be present to honor their hero for his service to his country. It will be our privilege to do so.

Wallace “Wally” MacLeod Jr. left High School at age 17 to join the war effort after Pearl Harbor was bombed. During his 30-year Naval career, he served in times of conflict during WWII, Korea, Dominican Republic, and Vietnam. He spent 9 years in the enlisted ranks, rising to Chief Petty Officer before passing the Officers Candidate test, and went on to achieve the rate of Commander. His responsibilities included Motor Machinist, Pipefitter, Salvage Diver, Maintenance and Damage Control Officer as well as Detachment Officer-In- Charge. Some of his duty stations included - Guantanamo Bay-Cuba, Bremerton, WA, Norfolk VA, Subic Bay, Philippines- MAAG, Dominican Republic- - Amphibious Base Coronado, CA- Rung SAT Zone, Vietnam- and his last duty station Yokohama, Japan. He received several medals including; Presidential Unit Commendation, Meritorious Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal with 7 stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and several other commendation and service medals.

After retiring in 1976, he worked as a technical writer for a marine engineering firm in San Diego. He also contributed articles to the Navy Times and other naval publications, especially about his service in Korea. He enjoyed many years attending the “USS Colonial” ship reunions.

He was married to the love of his life, Billie Jo for 49 years. Together with their daughter Julia Williams, they traveled the world and loved their time as a military family. This despite extended periods of separation while Wally was at sea. They lived in San Diego much of his career and moved to Ramona, CA in 1990 to be closer to their daughter’s family. Wally is beloved by many and had a deep abiding faith in God. There is peace in knowing he is with Our Heavenly Father and will always be remembered as a Man of Honor, Wisdom and Love. Wally is survived by Daughter; Julia Williams, Son in Law; Jim Williams, 2 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandson.
